Role
A university research project developed at TU Delft in collaboration with FedEx, as part of the Context Mapping Skills course. Working within a team of four, the project focused on understanding the logistics landscape of Italian and Spanish hospitals, specifically around the receiving and delivering of clinical trials, medical devices, and pharmaceutical packages. Responsibilities included participant recruitment, sensitising material design, semi-structured interviews, data analysis, and facilitation of the final client workshop.

Research Vision
FedEx serves hospitals across three segments, clinical trials, medical devices, and pharma, but had never treated the hospital itself as a direct client. The brief asked a simple but revealing question: what if they did?
To answer it, nine hospital workers across eight hospitals in Italy and Spain were recruited and interviewed, spanning roles from nurses and doctors to laboratory technicians and prevention department specialists. The research combined sensitising booklets with semi-structured interviews, designed to surface the details and human realities that standard research methods tend to miss.

The insights were well received by the FedEx innovation team, who described the work as one of the clearest overviews of Southern European hospital logistics they had encountered. The findings have continued to inform their strategy since, which is why the full research outcomes remain confidential for now.
